Do i leave the carbon and acrylic pads in my fluval 3 all the time?

I have read the instructions and it loses me a bit do i leave both the pads in all the time or do i leave the carbon one in or the acrylic im lost help pleaseDo i leave the carbon and acrylic pads in my fluval 3 all the time?
I'd honestly say use them till they are knackered and then cut a Juwel carbon sponge to fit and use as a replacement, it's cheaper.

The text book answer is however, rinse the filter medium in the water removed during a weekly change. When it ceases to work, ie falls to bits, the little yellow button will drop. That means it's goosed. You should only replace one piece of filter medium at any one time to retain the good bacteria.

Wear wise you get good mileage out of the carbon, but it's job is to absorb chemicals and once it's saturated it's as much use as a chocolate fireguard, so routinely change that every couple of months.

Great filter, but Fluval want you to buy as much replacement filter medium as they can; that's where they make their money.
