Using other paint on acrylic surface?

I've bought one of those acrylic wall hangings that you paint yourself. I have run out of a certain colour but I have other paint here (stuff you use in the house eg. on walls or drawers) so am wondering if it really matters if I use a bit of that stuff? I only have a tiny bit to paint, maybe 10cm x 10cm area. Does it really make any difference?Using other paint on acrylic surface?
wall paint/multipurpose house paint(for drawers and stuff) is acrylic paint too silly, so no it doesnt matter, both the paints are water based and can be blended togeter nicely, just make sure its not gloss paint, or then it will stand out lol, its better if its just the ordinary paint. and yes it will stick to the surface, it can stick to plaster on the wall so it can stick to canvases. the only surface it wont stick to is smooth plastic.

They started using acrillic piants for walls about 50 or 60 years ago i think.

They dont use oil paints for walls, its too expensive and just as impractical as using water colors on a wall lol.Using other paint on acrylic surface?
It might not stick to the surface. It probably won't blend well into the color you were using since it's different paint. If you want to try it just use the tiniest corner of the space so you can cover it with the right paint if it doesn't work.

  • Do pink and white acrylic nails turn yellow from indoor tanning (tanning beds)?

I want to get my nails done with the pink and white acrylics but I am worried they might turn yellow. I have had regular acrylic nail in the past and they turned yellow from tanning but I heard that the pink and white arcylics won't. Does anyone know if this is true or if there is a clear polish that I can use to protect them from turning yellow? Any advice is greatly appriciated. Thank you!Do pink and white acrylic nails turn yellow from indoor tanning (tanning beds)?
Most tanning salons sell nail covers. So just wear nail covers and nothing will happen to them.Do pink and white acrylic nails turn yellow from indoor tanning (tanning beds)?
If you have cheap nails that were made with cheap acrylic products, then yes, they will yellow easily. But, top of the line acrylic products do not yellow like the cheap stuff does. You may want to go to a different salon - one that uses good products.

BTW, there is no difference between the pink %26amp; white, and what you call 'regular' acrylic. They are the same thing, just a different color. Good quality acrylics come in many different colors, and will withstand the UV lights and not become yellowed.

Does anyone know what to buy to make the acrylic nail stay on?

I do my own nails and they look great but only stay on about 4 days and then come off. I have used a primer before making the nail but that didn't help. When I have a professional do my nails they don't come off, so what should I do? I can't afford to have someone else do my nails. Besides I love to do them myself except the fact they don't stay on!!Does anyone know what to buy to make the acrylic nail stay on?
The key to long lasting nails is proper nail preperation prior to the application of acrylic. It's essential to do the prep work. You cannot simply apply primer and expect the nails to last because they won't. While I don't blame you for wanting to save money doing them yourself - or for whatever reason you do them yourself, but this is one of the reasons why they have schools for becoming a nail technician. So many people incorrectly believe that they can go and get the supplies, or some little kit somewhere, come home, and do great nails. It's not as easy as it looks, and if you are not careful, you may end up doing more harm than good to yourself. How? Well, contact dermatitis is just one way of the ways you can be harmed by this. That comes from overexposure of the skin to the chemicals used in acrylics. Actually, you can develop this condition with overexposure to just about any chemical, but acrylic monomers, primers, and even the polymers are definitely some of those chemicals which can, and often does cause this condition in many people. No, one does not get this overnight - it takes time. The amount of time varies for everyone. And once you have contact dermatitis from a particular chemical, you will always have it. The remedy? To avoid contact with the chemical which causes the allergic reaction. And that means no more acrylic nails - ever. I suggest learning how to do nails the right way before continuing to do them. Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear, but thats just how it is. I did answer your question though. Proper preperation of the nail is a key element in the process of applying acrylic nails. If you skip over this, nails will lift, or 'pop' off in a matter of days, or sooner.

BTW, use primer VERY sparingly. One half ounce bottle is enough to do over 1,000 full sets of nails. If you are soaking your nails with it, you are using way too much. One brushful of primer - after wiping the brush on the side of the bottle to remove the excess, is enough for 7-10 nails. If your nails look 'wet' after applying primer, you are using too much of it.Does anyone know what to buy to make the acrylic nail stay on?
I have this same problem so this isn't an answer, but a ';you're not alone!'; I use a primer/bonder too and it still doesn't help.

What colors do I mix to make mauve using acrylic paint?

red and blue to make purple then slowly add white until you get what you're looking forWhat colors do I mix to make mauve using acrylic paint?
    Purple plus white.

Red and blue don't actually make a bright purple. You could get a dull mauve using that method, or you could mix a warm blue like ultramarine with a cool red like alizarin crimson, or, ideally, with magenta aka hot pink. Or you can get a tube of purple like dioxazine violet which is what I use. Just mix a small amount with white, and add a little warm blue or cool red until you have just what you want.

I did a steel pin, with two plastic balls. The plastic is always breaking, so make sure you have extras. I think those are the natural tips and I saw a Youtube video yesterday tat used them and showed how to use them. I can't remember the link though. I think you apply them to your nail and file the edge between your nails and the tips and use the acrylic then paint over them. Good luck. I bought an acrylic kit from Sallys yesterday and did my own acrylics for the first time and they look pretty good today and took less than an hour to do and it's such a relief to not have my nails drilled into :shudder:

  • (potheads only) is it safe to clean my acrylic bong with nail polish remover?

it is an acrylic bong with a metal stem and bowl, and I rinse out real well after cleaning it with nail polish remover?(potheads only) is it safe to clean my acrylic bong with nail polish remover?
Alcohol works well, plain rubbing alcohol or even high-proof drinking alcohol (it it's all you have). I wouldn't use nail polish remover (acetone).(potheads only) is it safe to clean my acrylic bong with nail polish remover?
I don't think it's a good idea. Acrylic material is a form of plastic. Plastic can be carosive is nail polish remover is applied to it. And nail polish remover is also flamable. Why would you have a bong made of acrylic material anyway? Acrylic is not heat resistant too.
ever think of just using bleach water to clean it out?

Can You Use Acrylic paint on tshirts ?

ok im making a shirt for a concert , and i ran out of fabric paint and i was wondering if you could use acrylic paint on fabric ? Im only gonna wear it once so i dont need to worry bout the paint with the washing machine. Can You Use Acrylic paint on tshirts ?
You have to buy fabric paint or use whatever acrylic paint you have and mix them with FABRIC MEDIUM. Acrylic paint acts like plastic, whereas fabric is not. If you only use acrylic paint directly on the shirt, the spots where has the acrylic paint on would feel stiff. If you try to manipulate it like a regular shirt, the heavy acrylic paint would flake off. If you apply it too thin, it won;t stay, and it will come off soon.

FABRIC MEDIUM is something to bond acrylic paint with the shirt. Once you mix the medium with acrylic paint, the area you paint on would stay soft and would not come off. it is also machine washable. Can You Use Acrylic paint on tshirts ?
Yes you can. Be aware that the acrylic paint will tend to sit on the surface of the shirt and if applied too thickly will not only make the fabric feel stiff and thick, but it may flake off with use. Acrylic is essentially a plastic paint. If you are careful with it, wash it by hand and drip dry the shirt, you should be fine.
If you don't care that it washes out then acrylic will be fine. However if you want to keep it and therefore don't want it to wash out you can buy a fabric paint medium to mix with the acrylic. Good Luck
yeah you can it will stick on there forever

usually when i paint with it, i try to wear old clothes cuz i know it'll NEVER come out. so yeah. :)

Dilute the paint until it's at the consistency you want. If it gets to runny you can add more paint to thicken it up.

They're perfectly fine! Just make sure they're not too long, cheesy, or tacky. Nice, acrylic are much better and prettier than yucky, bitten ones. Plus, they are cheaper than manicures! :)
it depends how they look, some can look total fine and are total appropriate to wear to work, other look super tacky
where do you work and probably just make sure they arent long bcus then they look trashy
They are definately appropriate , But i would stick to very simple design and not too long
theyre tacky everywhere, not just for work.

I've had acrylic nails before, and that happened to me. Your nails just get soar because your natural nails are being forced into an unnatural shape (because of the tip and the acrylic). The soreness should be gone by tomorrow. If it's still painful tomorrow, you should go back to the nail salon and have them take it off. Hope this helps. Why is the acrylic only on my thumb nails hurting?
Its just that youre not used to having acrylic on your natural nails. Also, the aggressiveness of the machine they use to take youre natural top coat of your nails is very harsh on your fingers, therefore they are sore. It normally goes away after a day or two!
it might just be more sensitive.

Will an oil stain applied over an acrylic stain dry or stay tacky?

I am distressing steps on a staircase. I put an acrylic stain on first then sanded the edges and parts of the step itself. Next I applied an oil based stain and hand rubbed it on. (I felt that this would hold up better than glaze.) Have I messed up? I am a little concerned that it is not drying properly. It has been about 5 hours and is still a little tacky. Will it dry? I guess I will know in the morning since it is a done deal. Should I apply a sealer and what kind (after it drys)? Will an oil stain applied over an acrylic stain dry or stay tacky?
Hey Delores...when doing these things you don't 'mess up', you learn. I think it might dry overnight (oils are slower curing), if not then get some mineral spirits and some clean cloth and wipe it down good, or you could do it now if you think you made a mistake. I'm not a fan of acrylic stains but I know the oils. For a finish..I like the waterbourne crystal clear finish by DeVoe but they are all probably about the same...just remember to apply 2 or 3 very light coats instead of 1 thick one, stir regularly ( don't shake), and sand between coats.....good luck!

What are ';acrylic polymers';? **please help, asap**?

just like the question :-pWhat are ';acrylic polymers';? **please help, asap**?
Acrylic polymers are polymers made from the acrylic monomers.

Most popular is Methyl Methacrylate, MMA

PMMA is made in sheets in the form of Perspex, Lucite, Plexiglas etc. Used for point of sale, shop signs, glazing for boats, bath tubs etc

Filled acrylic polymers, PMMA + a filler eg Silica, Alumina Tri Hydrate etc are used for acrylic based kitchen sinks, Kitchen worktops etc.

Acrylic, PMMA is also found in various resins etc from trophies to dental fillings.

PMMA is also made into beads that is used for injection moulding things like rear lights for cars.

Acrylic generally as good weathering properties and so is suitable for outside applications.

There are other acrylic monomers that are used in various resins / paints / coating etc.

Hope this helps. What are ';acrylic polymers';? **please help, asap**?
Acrylic polymers are the plastics or plasticides that bond paints-water based latexs for example. Because they contain them they have ';give'; so with the new enviornmental laws slowing sales on oil based paints etc-these new paints can work well in the kitchen or bathrooms where moisture andheat can be a problem.

Difference between acrylic and water paint?

i have a passion for sketching and drawing but recently got inspired to add water painting into my sketches. But i am not sure what the difference is between acrylic and water paints. Also, what is better: using water color pencils and then brush with water or direct water coloring with a brush?Difference between acrylic and water paint?
Acrylics usually are thicker- it depends on what kind and whether they are professional grade or not (like Utrecht's) - but they are plastic based, while water colors are based on water.

For starting out with water colors, water color pencils are great, especially making the switch from drawing into painting.

You just draw everything out and color it to about how you want it and then you can manipulate it and get great effects by brushing it with water. (For a beginner it can make it easier to control, true water colors require a gradual build up process which is a little trickier, but are worth it in the end.)

Also, there are ';sketch and wash'; pencils that I highly recommend if you haven't heard of them yet.

Have fun and feel free to experiment. Hope I helped in some way.Difference between acrylic and water paint?
One of the biggest difference is acrylics are *permanent* when dry. Not so with watercolors. You can't go back and 'lift-out' mistakes with acrylics like you can with watercolors. Using a good a artist quality acrylic (thinned to watercolor consistency) can look just like watercolor painting and you need not do much to keep it safe.

Using watercolor pencils are fun, but can be very very tricky. They look like a pencil, draw like a pencil, but once that water hits the paper... it's a whole another ball game :) Oh yes, you will need really good heavy drawing paper...

    Play, Practice, Explore, Have Fun...
Well with water color you get a great effects with flowers and nature

    ,,its very flowy

    like water

to get the details I would use the watercolor pencils

acrylic paint is much thicker, and you don't have to add water to it

the drying time is longer than watercolor

but it is much better if you want solid colors

    or more control.
You can always use acrylics like watercolors if you water them down.

The main problem I see in using watercolors is that it my curl you sketches or even mess up the paper.

you would need to use watercolor paper in your sketches and tape it down well around the edges if you want to use watercolors.
Acrylic paint is a plastic substance when dry. Where watercolor is water soluble after it is painted. That means that it can run. You might want to do your sketchs on a water media sketch pad that way you can paint on it afterwords. You also might want to take a painting class.
i'm pretty sure that acrylic is thicker than water colors

This is a long process. First off, try cutting your nails down a little bit before you actually try to take the artificial nails off. Once you cut the excess length off, pour some acetone nail polish remover into a small glass bowl. Place your fingertips into the glass bowl filled with acetone and place a towel over over your hands (this will keep the acetone warmer and will also help with the smell). If you have a reading light that can be moved, use that to heat the towel once you place your fingertips into the bowl of acetone. After the 20-30 minutes is up, use a nail clipper with the pointy ends to take off the acrylic. If the acrylic doesn't come off easily, soak your fingertips again. Repeat until the acrylic comes off and then do the other hand.
soaking them in pure acetone. You are better off going to a nail salon and having them removed. They can use their electric file to buff off the softening acrylic.

It should run about $10 and its worth it.
you can get them taken off by the nail shop that you went to. i believe they only charge 5 dollars. good luck
Its best to grow them out if you can. Try filing them down very short and thin them down, then buff them out with a block buffer and a little cuticle oil.

They are going to look damaged if you remove them, when they ';rough'; up the nail bed with the drill or file to get the product to adhere it thins your natural nail out. If you decide to remove them anyway, be diligent in using a nail strengthener and keep them short for awhile.

Do you possibly hate them because the tech did a set that are too thick or too long? those are things that can be corrected. My acrylics look like natural nails, but I usually have to finish them myself once I get home.

    Good Luck.
go to walmart and buy some acetone. it will be in the same isle as the fingernail polish remover. also buy a small bowl that u can throw away. pour the acetone into the bowl and soak ure fingertips in it for about 7-10 minutes. that will release the acrylic to where it will be very easy to get them off.

    good luck!
    Acetone
Soak your fingers in warm water then put them in acetone and let the nails break down. the warm water really helps the process a bit faster
soak your hands in acetone nail polish remover... but you need to have patience with it.... don't rush it... the key is soak.. it will get soft and then scrape it off with either other nails.... But if the length is too long for you then just file it down or trim.
sorry dear, there is no easy way. I've had the same problem. You are going to have to cut your nails down to the bare. Get pure acetone, soak them for a long time. It will start melting but you will still need to do some physical work to get them off. Don't peel, your real nail will get very brittle and thin, next time just use the glue-on nails!! LOL
soak your fingers in a bowl of nail polish remover until the nails soften and then slowly peel them off.

and then put lotion on your natural nails.

    just my opinion.
This is going to be a pain in your butt...

I've had to take off acrylic nails and have soaked my fingers in pure acetone, and they still damaged my nails.

I haven't found a sure fire way to remove them, but I do have some tips:

Work slowly! Make sure you have lots of time and patience! Put the acetone (buy at wal-mart or target) in a small glass bowl. You can't use plastic, because the acetone will eat away at it.

Cut off as much 'extra' nail as you can.

Soak your fingers, a few at a time in the acetone. Use only as much as you need to cover your fingers because the acetone will DRY your skin out!

After several minutes, bend your artifical nails away from your natural ones.

You will notice them starting to peel away %26amp; keep soaking and bending until they come totally off. Don't pull or work too quickly.

After your nails are off, wash your hands well %26amp; use a good moisturizer.

Get some high-quality (like sally hansen) nail polish that's made for people that have removed their artifical nails. If you can't find any at your wal-mart or target store, then get something called ridge-filler and apply it right away.

Keep your natural nails clipped close to your fingers because they will be brittle and will break easily until they start to grow back in with the natural thickness nature intended.

    Good luck...

BTW, i LOVE my artifical nails! I don't think I'd be able to function on a daily basis without them! lol But, everyone is different, and I hope all works out for you!

    Thanks
go to a drug store and buy PURE ACETONE. Soak your nails in it until the fakes dissolve.

It is easy, just spray some water on the back of the canvas where the dents are and that will stretch the canvas as it dries. After it dries the canvas will look like new.

Do acrylic plastics age over time?

If they do, would it affect the adhesiveness when I try to bond two pieces together using conventional acrylic glue? (plastics are about 4 or 5 years old) ThanksDo acrylic plastics age over time?
Acrylics do age, but you should still be able to glue it without problem. The glue works by a chemical process and will in some ways ';restore'; the acrylic at the joint. Also, 4-5 years is not significant in terms of the aging process.Do acrylic plastics age over time?

Are acrylic display cases UV protected?

Depends on the grade of acrylic.....

If its extruded acrylic then likely to have no / low UV protection.

Cast acrylic is better. This should do you.

Cast museum grade is the best (contains a high UV absorber level and is used to protect exhibits in museums), will cost more though.

Assuming the case is inside and out of any direct sunlight then it should be OK as is.Are acrylic display cases UV protected?
Most pre-made display cases (99%) are not UV protected. You need to go to a custom frame shop/collectible place and ask for UV glass or acrylic.

Hello I just got acrylic nails about a week and a half ago and they still look fine and everything but they're growing out and becoming really long. If i want to maintain them what's the next step? Can I file them down? What will the people at the salon do if I want to keep them and maintain them? When should I go in?What I do with my acrylic nails now?? Next step?
I have acryllic nails on right now!

If their growing out go back to the salon and tell them you want them filled, they will know what to do;)

    Good luck!

Where should I go to get acrylic nails done in Brampton, On?

Dont get them! Acrylic will ruin your nails! get gel nails they might be a bit more expensive. but definately worth it.

  • For artists:I want to paint (acrylic) a night scene w street lamps glowing & am wondering about?

wondering about painting the actual lights, if i paint with the light acrylic over the dark night sky the gradient from light to dark would turn out poorly, or if i should leave extra space around the lamps to fade from glow into dark night sky? thanks!!!!For artists:I want to paint (acrylic) a night scene w street lamps glowing %26amp; am wondering about?
Whichever way you do it, be sure nothing else is as light. Everything else must be darker in hue. Squinting helps you determine which area(s) is (are) the lightest. The sharpest contrast between light and dark pigments will translate into very bright. Some Hudson River artists used the effect to make their setting Sun seem so bright it was hard to look at. In fact, if white paint were put next to it, you could see the Sun was ';darker.'; For artists:I want to paint (acrylic) a night scene w street lamps glowing %26amp; am wondering about?
acrylic paint is less forgiving than oil, meaning you have time with oil paint to shade or tint. when painting the first step is your background. they are additives for acrylic paint to slow down the drying time. although night time seems pitch black you dont use black for night scenes. black is the absence of color so no matter how dark it is there is a level of light. i would use the darkest blue shaded with black or a paynes grey to get the effect you want. cover the entire canvas with it so you have that color on all your subject matter to be painted. next as you paint your street lamps you want to find your focal point that will be the brightest using pure white or gesso....then tinting the blue with it moving away from it. the further you are from the light source the darker it recedes. keep in mind how light falls over objects and produces shadows on surrounding objects.
Either way is viable. If you load the brush with both the light and dark tones and apply to the canvas - adding more tone if needed when dry - you would achieve an interesting fanned gradiation of tone effect.

Can I paint my door with acrylic craft paint???

I want to paint my door gold so I went to walmart and they had metalic gold acrylic paint. Can I use this to paint my door or will it just chip off? thanksCan I paint my door with acrylic craft paint???
You should be fine with acrylics on your door. The think you need to make sure is what you paint over. Most chipping is not from the quality of the paint but a dirty or improper undercoat. Find out what paint you have on your door now and go from there. Any good paint store that isn't a huge warehouse store should have someone that knows paint and won't just refer you to books on the walls. Can I paint my door with acrylic craft paint???
no problem, you can use acrylic paint on a door.

heres the steps, and you will want to follow all of them as your using a gold metallic paint, the effect can be ruined if not done right, but dont worry it's easy.

    1. sanding, you need to use a 120 grit sand paper to knock off any particals and begin to create a smooth surface.

2 switch to 220 grit sand paper and smooth the surface further, just till you can rub your hand accross it and not feel any groves or notches.

    3. clean it down well, use white spirit or turps, this is a very important step as the smallest bit of dust will stand out later, vacume the floor as well as particals of dust will just move back up when you move around.

    4. undercoat. i would use a oil based or solvent based undercoat as it gvie a better finish for smoothing down thanks to it's hi-build. use a small sponge roller to apply, then line it off with a brush. (line it off = run the brush up and down to make the paint look a bit like it was applyed by brush)

    5. leave it over night so it will be good and dry for the next day.

    6. sand down again with the 220 grit sand paper to make the surface smooth again and to knock off any dust particals you may have missed.

    7. clean it again, same as before (dont forget to vacume the floor)

    8. time to paint, apply you'll be painting with a brush on this bit so try to see if you can get a 2 inch sash brush (or turks head for the old school painters out there) you want to paint in lines, starting at the top, paint 2 lines about 4 inches apart, the without adding more paint to the brush join the 2 lines together in a sideways motion, then line it off up and down, just keep doing this till it's all covered, you my need to give it 2 coats as it an acrylic paint your using.

    9. jobs done, if you have followed all the steps you will be looking at a perfecty smooth finish that will give you a semi-shine, if you want it glossy you just need to repeat step 9 using laqure insted of paint, but it must go on very very thin.

    good luck and have fun.
Sand the door well to rough up the old finish. Priming it might give you a better look once it's painted. If you are worried about it not lasting, Krylon makes a clear top coat.

In my kitchen I have a white sink whuch i think its acrylic...im not sure but...?

it always gets dirty...what do i use to make it white again? im getting sooo annoyed and i dont want to change sinks...i like my white sink when its white...lol...which hasnt been like that since i first got my home. Please someone tell me what i can use...ive already used bleach and stuff so what else is there??In my kitchen I have a white sink whuch i think its acrylic...im not sure but...?
Try using Soft Scrub. It's like comet only without being gritty. Soft Scrub won't scratch the surface. Put a good amount into the sink, enough to cover the stains and use a nice stiff dish brush to scrub it. If it doesn't come clean the first time, you may have to do it again and let the Soft Scrub set 10-15 minutes before you scrub and rinse. In my kitchen I have a white sink whuch i think its acrylic...im not sure but...?

If i have my acrylic nails taken off can i have them redone straight after?

Yes!If i have my acrylic nails taken off can i have them redone straight after?
Why are you taking them off and having them redone? When you take them off, a couple layers of your nails come off. Just have the manicurist do a fill.

How do you keep acrylic paints moist so that you can paint over a long period?

you can use a pallete with a lid or you can simpl use saran wrap over your container. you have to be sure that you keep the paint moist periodically. just spray it with a little bit of water every now and then and it will stay good for quite some time :DHow do you keep acrylic paints moist so that you can paint over a long period?

..How do you keep acrylic paints moist so that you can paint over a long period?
The secret is to prevent air getting to the surface of the paint...palettes with lids help but nothing is better than a piece of Saran wrap pressed down over the paint ...you might spritz it first. try this idea
There is a clear gel called ';Medium';, much like the varnish technique. I always used plastic handle brushes and throw them into a flat pan / tray of water until I'm ready to clean up.
a simply damp paper towel over your palette will work.

And when i say 'use' I mean do I need to add water or something? I already have a little bottle of it...I just dont know how to paint with it.How do I use Acrylic paint? ?
You can use it in many ways!

    - It can be used straight out of the tube/bottle, which will usually give quite a thick, opaque quality.

    - You can mix it with water if you want to make it thinner - this will be a 'wash' which is fairly similar to the effect you get with watercolours.

    - There are also different 'mediums' you can add to achieve certain finishes, for example gloss or matt

    - and, of course, you can mix it up with different acrylic colours!

Best thing to do is just experiment with it and get a feel for the medium. Happy painting :)How do I use Acrylic paint? ?

...you can throw it, water it down and drip it, mix it with sand and grind it, melt it or light it on fire, and even freezing it. You could create some really cool effects with a painting by messing around with it. Let you cat walk across a painting.

yes it is bad. because if u sit there for a really long time u can have pain. also breathing in all tht acrylic chemicals may cause sickness to u and ur baby.
I don't think there is any scientific evidence to back up the fact that it could harm the fetus. (I wouldn't during the 1st trimester.)

However, I will mention that they are almost impossible to have with a newborn baby. And, if you get them and have them taken off when the baby gets here... remember, the lines take a while to grow out.
Yeah, having acrylic nails applied means sitting in a salon for a long period of time... You will be breathing in chemical fumes from the acrylic and nail polish as well as everything else being used inside the salon. The oxygen you take in goes through your blood stream and into your baby; all the fumes are bad for them!
It's not bad to get the nails, but the fumes are bad. Make sure you wear a mask, like the ones the nail techs use, doing each visit. If you can still smell the fumes with this on, you may want to stop going to get your nails done.
i cant imagine sitting in those places with the toxic fumes could be good. but lots of women do it.
I believe so. I wouldn't do it and especially in the first trimester it sounds like a bad idea. The products they use contain carcinogens, proven to cause birth defects. I wouldn't even want to be in a nail salon during my pregnancy.

There is not a specific age. However, do be aware that any sort of artificial nails will weaken your own nails as well as put you at risk for nail infections. If you just have to do this, try to at least go with the tips rather than full nails.

Listen, I've done this before, I always use pencil, trust me, if you mess up you can erase it, just make the lines dark. With charcoal, you can't erase it, and I personally think charcoal bleeds 10 times more than graphite, graphite= pencil. And it's alot eaisier to use.
use the charcoal and then give it a wash with damp cloth (wipe down)

This will do 2 things for you

help with shading and get rid of any dust and excess charcoal we use the same technic for oils but wipe with thinners instead
Why not try charcoal. Light pencil lines shouldn't fade.

Acrylic comes from acrylic acid.....is that what you are looking for?

Medium-density fibreboard (MDF or MDFB) is an engineered wood product formed by breaking down softwood into wood fibers, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure.[1] It is a building material similar in application to plywood but made up of separated fibers, not wood veneers.

Pines are coniferous trees in the genus Pinus, in the family Pinaceae. They make up the monotypic subfamily Pinoideae. There are about 115 species of pine, although different authorities accept between 105 and 125 species.

Why does the acrylic raises up of off the natural nail.?

in dealing with artificial nails when you are doing acrylic why when applying acrylic on the artificial nail it raises up after two to three days and comes off? a question for essential nails? Why does the acrylic raises up of off the natural nail.?
This is because the surface of the nail has not been prep'd efficiently.

Cuticles should be pushed back, all shine should be buffed/removed, a primer should then be applied. After this then the acrylic can be put on... primer dehydrates the nail so that the acrylic can adhere, when the shine is removed with an abrasive the top layer of oil is removed from the nail bed, this oil is what causes acrylic to lift...

other than this, the acryilc could be laid too close to the cuticle therefore as the nail grows it will have a tendency to lift, acrylic should start 1/16' from the cuticle...

hope this helpsWhy does the acrylic raises up of off the natural nail.?
you need to prep the nail before applying acrylic.

this is really bad for ur nail by the way. but you will need to buff the nail down and dry it out by applying some sort of solution.

    gel is a safer alternitive
buff the nail first to make it grindy then use a nail primer b4 applying acrylic...it lasts longer htis way, also dont get the acrylic on the skin around the nail or it will lift up

I would move your birds into another while you paint. I would let the room air out for a couple days before putting them back in their room. =)

What souds better? A wood drum set or acrylic?

I was planning on getting a custom acrylic set but somebody i know told me acrylic drum sets sound bad...but he kinda has bad taste so i dont know.

What sounds better? what are the differences? What souds better? A wood drum set or acrylic?
It's not that one sounds better or worse; they sound different. Wood drums are warmer and richer, acrylic drums are rounder and have more attack but can sound plastic-y. Acrylic done right can sound amazing though. I encourage you to check out this custom acrylic kit posted in a forum. It's one of the best acrylics I've heard. Scroll down to about halfway and you'll find an MP3 attachment sound file with the set recorded.

What is an acrylic over lay?

I just asked a different question about acrylics, and this was recommended to me, but do not know what it is?What is an acrylic over lay?
I am a master nail tech for Creative Nails and an overlay only means you have acrylic over your natural nail. No tips or sculptured addition on to the end of your natural nails. If the length you have is good then just get an overlay..What is an acrylic over lay?
If you have long, not so strong nails that you want to preserve an acrylic over lay will help them because they are putting a coat of acrylic over your nails making them more tough. You will have to get fill ins just like a full set though.
i think its acrylic(fake) nails put on over your natural nails but its the same length as the acrylic.
    putting acrylic over your nails
Overlay is acrylic over your natural nail without gluing tips on.

  • Does anyone know how to use drill for acrylic nails?

i just bought from ebay, i don't know how to use it. i know how to do acrylic but with filling. my drill is hand drill. i need ur help guys. thxDoes anyone know how to use drill for acrylic nails?
for starters you should go to school and get proper education to be using a drill. if your not licensed and are using a drill on yourself or others there are many dangers. if your not licensed and you are doing nails on other individuals for money this is illegal and not to mention unsafe. if you aren't licensed and your wanting to use a drill and don't know what your doing you can permanently damage your nail bed. i suggest you either return it and pay a professional or go to school and learn the safe and legal wayDoes anyone know how to use drill for acrylic nails?
If you mean to file or filling? A hand drill that is used in wood working or metal work like a real dremel too? If so, DO NOT USE IT, it is too fast and powerful and you risk injury and burning through your nail. Get a regular electric manicure machine and clip most of the acrylic off to remove it first, then soak it in nail polish remover, only file the residue off using the lightest touch. Otherwise to fill and maintain your acrylics lift the loose edges and put nail glue in between, press out all air bubbles wait ten to twenty seconds and then add your acrylic mixture on top, trying to use only the precise amount you need, just buff off the rough spots with an emery board file, it is so much safer.
Honestly those are methods from the past. Look for the videos on the Web for Ysnails dual system forms, you are going to see the difference between the drill and the three simple steps, check it out.

    Prepairing canvas for acrylic painting?

Is there something I'm suppose to put done on the canvas before painting in acrylics. like a foundation?Prepairing canvas for acrylic painting?
Cover the canvas with GESSO. Better than Rabbit Skin glue as no rabbits are involved.

Gesso is a white pigment in a glue binder --like a primer only more expensive, and made specifically for fine art applications.

Since you are using acrylic, it is not absolutely necessary to do this(archivally), but it will keep your paint from sinking into your canvas, if it's thin and wash-y, and will give you a nice smooth serface to begin with. You can put a coat on, sand it and then apply another coat to make it super smooth.Prepairing canvas for acrylic painting?
It is possible to paint straight onto canvas using acrylics, however the painted colours do sink a bit and an undercoat is preferable for two reasons.

1 the paint sinks in less and has a richer colour if used on a light ground.

2 In the event of restoration being necessary in the future it would be possible to replace the canvas.

Be carefull with Gesso as several types exist with binders different to acrylic, read the label carefully before you choose which type of Gesso you use.Primers with acrylic bases have been used since the 1960s,when I trained and household white wood primers with acrylic bases are perfectly usable,as is good quality emulsion paint which has been my chosen primer on washed canvas since 1964,with no sign of deterioration to the work.
Acrylics you don't have to do anything. But... gesso is good because... it is acrylic paint with a bit of chalk mixed in.

This not only seals the canvas so your paint doesnt soak in, (gesso is a LOT cheaper than tubes of paint.)

The chalk also helps provide some ';tooth'; for your paint to sit on.

Since gesso IS acrylic paint, it's not necessary to use before painting in acrylic.

It is if you ever switch to oils though. Oil will rot canvas, so you need that barrier.
Are you using store bought (manufactured) canvases? Usually the canvases purchased at Michaels or Hobby Lobby are already primed so you don鈥檛 have to do anything to prepare them. But if you鈥檙e making your own then you will want to prime them with Gesso. Two coats are usually sufficient. Brush or roll length way and let dry. Then roll or brush width way (chris-cross over lapping pattern.) Sand it smooth (if necessary) with 220 grit all-purpose sandpaper. Wipe it off with a damp cloth. Let it thoroughly dry (if you want) and paint away.

    Good luck and always:

    Keep Arting!

  • Whats the best thing to thin out acrylic paint?

Want to do a piece with paint flowing from a small hole in a cup that spins but i need to thin the paint so its runny but not to runny. any sugestionsWhats the best thing to thin out acrylic paint?
Yes, water is the natural choice for acrylics because of their water solubility, however for your purposes, you might want to use an airbrush medium that will give you the advantage of a more even color. If using too much water, you will end up with a water colour effect that probably won't suit your purpose.Whats the best thing to thin out acrylic paint?
Use water, but don't use more than about 1/3 water or the paint will have poor binding abilities. Acrylic medium mixed with water and paint would improve the binding qualities. if you're not concerned with it lasting for 100 years, just use water.
Acrylics are water soluble, so they can and should be thinned with water. You do have to mix the water in quite well, or the paint will separate. If you mix in too much water, just add more paint. Good luck.
Acrylics are water-based paints. Therefore you can use just plain water to thin them out.
Have your tried using acrylic medium? you'd probably get a runnier effect with that since it's thicker than water.
Water works fine. It thins it's opacity though, so you might want to do 2 or more coats of watered down acrylic.
    Water
    Water is best.

Do acrylic paints normally require a well ventilated room or am I developing an allergy?

I like painting with acrylics, but the last couple of times I've tried the fumes have made me cough a lot and made my throat feel weird. I used to paint in my parent's kitchen. I now live in a room which is a lot smaller. Do I need to open a window or switch to another medium (gouache or something)Do acrylic paints normally require a well ventilated room or am I developing an allergy?
You are the first person to draw attention to this matter and I'm rather pleased you did.

Over a year ago, I began to notice that I was stinking the house up with my white acrylic paint. OK, it wasn't the best brand on the market but, for my purpose (heavy-textured mixed-media work) it suited fine. However, the fumes were awful and even the cat gave me an 'old fashioned' look! In order to eradicate the pong, I bought a tub of Daler-Rowney System 3 white acrylic from my local art shop. Any improvement? - NO! It stank to high heaven and I had to use one of those 'fresh air' gel pots to calm the stench. My sinuses didn't like the fumes at all, believe me!

Went back to the art shop and asked if there was a problem with acrylic paint. Apparently, no. Later tubes and tubs of white seemed to be odourless ... until I bought some black! Same problem, headaches, blocked sinus, dirty looks! Then the 'black' seemed OK, several tubes later ... until I started on the magenta - Worst fumes yet!!!

To be honest, I do not know why acrylics should be causing these problems. To think, I thought my oil paints would cause offence - now THIS!!!

Must say, things have improved a bit lately but, please, in order to save you from being an artistic outcast, open a window or get yourself one of those 'fresh air' pyramid thingys from the supermarket. You will probably find that the more expensive acrylics like Liquitex will be totally odourless.

Don't switch your painting medium if at all possible. Do want you feel is best for you ... and open that gel pyramid!!!

Good luck!Do acrylic paints normally require a well ventilated room or am I developing an allergy?
First off listen to what your body is saying and don't hurt yourself with them. House paint types of acrylic bother me. You might try craft acrylic in the clear bottles. My favorite type is Anita's acrylic craft paint. College students use the cheep bottle types - things cost too much, and its just the same thing only not as thick. With this type of paint you don't need thinners only water to thin them. In fact that may be your problem. I would have someone else clean up your paint containers and bag them up and give them to a local YWCA or art group or something.
I've never had a prob with acrylics. Open a window. Gouche is a pain to work with. Or try oils.
I am asthmatic and I paint in my small bedroom and I have never even noticed fumes from the acrylics I paint with so I think you have a problem.
it would help alot more if ur room was ventilated. i took an art class in school and it was always ventilated because of all the other chemicals. altough we worked with oil paint. hmm i kind of miss painting now.
It would probably help to open a window or something so you aren't directly breathing in the paint... But I have never had a problem with it. And it doesn't say anything on the bottle about it... Hope i helped :D
I've never had a problem using acrylic paints and not experienced any particular fumes, as you have. However, as a precaution you could open a window to help prevent this from happening. Oil paint is another medium which you could try but, as you know, it does take much longer to dry than acrylic paint, this being the main advantage of acrylic! If you do decide to try oil paint, there is also the possibility of again suffering from the fumes given off by white spirit and turps so really you can't win! I think most artists suffer one way or another for their work! Good luck and hope you manage to overcome your problem.
You just might be allergic Ive never needed to open any windows when Im painting with it. My teenage son uses it in our lil apartment also. So I would check with your Dr. to see whats up.

Acrylics were invented by a chemist in the late 1950s who wanted to make a safe, non toxic paint as oil paints were killing his friend. They are used in schools because of the non toxic characteristics of the paint.

You don't want to clean your brushes for instance by rubbing them into the palm of your hand with soap as this can drive the pigments into the skin which could cause a problem.

Is acrylic paint safe for rats?

i was just wondering...i have an empty flower pot, and i think my rats will like playing in it. however, it's painted with acrylic paint. is that safe, or will it hurt them?Is acrylic paint safe for rats?
It should be just fine. Even if the rats chew on the paint, they won't eat it. Their mouths are specially designed so that bits of debris do not fall into their throats while they are chewing otherwise they'd be constantly swallowing wood, dirt, cement, etc. Acrylic paint is also generally non-toxic especially in small amounts so if they did eat a bit of it it should be just fine.

Stainless steel is cheaper and easier to maintain.

Acrylic is 'fancier' but a PITA to maintain. Within a few years it will be scratched as well.

Enameled iron is best of all, but also very expensive. What would be a better product for a kitchen sink..stainless steel or acrylic?
Just the other day I was over my supervisor's house, she was showing me her updated kitchen...which included an acrylic sink. She mentioned how easily it stained....her husband had left a coffee cup overturned under a saucer left overnight and she still cannot get the stain out.....I believe she was told NOT to use bleach....she says she has to be very vigilant as to washing off dirty dishes and cleaning off the sink quickly each and every time she uses it.....sounds high maintenance to me!
Yikes, go with the stainless. We have enameled iron and it is totally scratched. I would put some sort of insulation on the bottom side as they tend to be noisy. Check other answers for the acrylic.
Stainless. They are right, way easier to maintain and depending on the quality of the sink, they are cheaper. Not to mention a stainless steel sink will always work with any kitchen design. Always.
yes, i say stainless steel- as nice as acrylic is, if u want practical then go for the steel. if ur kitchen is featured ont hose home furnishing magazines, then you'd probably pick acrylic

Good luck with your rats!Is acrylic paint safe for rats?
I think it would be harmful it's paint if enough gets chewed it could result in killing it.

    hopefully it wont eat it

What acrylic do nail salons use? The liquid?

I got a monomer / acrylic liquid a huge bottle...it's not in front of me...brown bottle. My acrylic keeps flaking or peeling off and I think it's the liquid. I have several powder brands.

What do the salons use???What acrylic do nail salons use? The liquid?
When I used to do acrylics- I have worked with Creative brand and NSI. I only do natural nails now. Look at all the stars and models, they all have short well-manicured natural nails. Think about it. The reason it may be flaking is you may not be using a primer before you apply acrylic or you are not dehydrating the nail before use of products. What acrylic do nail salons use? The liquid?
    powder
White acrylic powder is the best
    no idea...
it honestly depends on where u go b/c diff salons use diff products, soo nxt time u go (or just go in order 2 ask) ask wat kind they use so that u can do a lil at home nail tlc

I am wondering where I can find information on how to bend/mold acrylic plastic.?

I am interested in learning to manufactur various acrylic products.I am wondering where I can find information on how to bend/mold acrylic plastic.?
The easiest way is to use a hair dryer to heat up the plastic, it makes it soft and more pliable.I am wondering where I can find information on how to bend/mold acrylic plastic.?
You could try using a ';Heat Gun';. It looks just like a hair dryer but it used to peel paint. Cost around $75.00 at Home Depot. Good luck!

  • What would be a better product for a kitchen sink..stainless steel or acrylic?

If acrylic..would it scratch easily. What would be a better product for a kitchen sink..stainless steel or acrylic?

Are acrylic and water-based polyurethane paints compatible?

As an artist, I want to mix my acrylic color paints with clear fast drying polyurethane varnish for the affect that it gives. Are acrylic and water-based polyurethane paints compatible?
Polymer emulsion paint (acrylics) and polyurethane varnish are not compatible - their chemical compositions are quite different. If you mixed them together the result would be disastrous at best.

There are many acrylic mediums that will give you the glossy effect of varnish - just mix your paints with a gloss medium or gel. Using multiple coats of final varnish on the painting will enhance the desired gloss %26amp; depth.

I have never painted with oil paint before. How is it different from acrylic?

I love oil. It is as timeless and classic as painting itself. It combines art and science. Comparing oil and acrylic is like comparing pearls to plastic beads. You can achieve jewel tones impossible with acrylic. Oil is more forgiving than acrylic because it dries much more slowly and no more ruined expensive brushes because all the acrylic didn't come out! You can scrape oil off and begin a section again. Get yourself a good beginning technique book for oils at the library or book store and follow the guidelines in its use (for example, painting ';fat over lean';). Don't over-mix the paint--you will take the life out of the color. Don't use black. Practice first with inexpensive brushes and paint on canvasette. Enjoy!I have never painted with oil paint before. How is it different from acrylic?
oil is so intersting it takes time 2 dry not as the acrylic does and u mix the colors using oil not water and truapantine oil 2 wash the brushes oil paintings takes time to be finishI have never painted with oil paint before. How is it different from acrylic?
Both are cool. Like the others have said. Oil is smoother, takes longer to dry, which can be beneficial. It depends on what type of piece you're painting. If you want to use masking techniques or others that require paint to dry quicker, I'd use acrylic. It's cool to accumulate both over time so you'll have the options.
Easy Answer: Drying Time and Texture.

Oil paint doesn't muddy up as quick. If you use the wet on wet technique, you can 'erase' mistakes by scrubbing the area until the liquid white underneath dilutes the color. Also, you really don't have to have great drawing skills. just get the perspective and general shape and fill in with color adjusting as subject matter warrants. good luck!!
Takes a lot longer to dry, so you can still adjust it long after acryllic would have dried.
It's a lot messier and takes longer to dry. Cleanup of brushes is more complicated. For my mural shown on my Avatar, I used oil paint, because it lasts longer outdoors.
Oil painting is harder from acrylic because it dries faster, but it is more versatile. Because of the drying time you can adjust the painting longer but it also harder to remeber the original ideas for such a long time. Oils mix a lot better than acrylics and therre are more choices in colors and manufacturers.
Oil paint is fun. It leaves a shine on the canvas. Make sure that its well mixed because the pigment sinks to the bottom. It will dry really slow and will run if you're not careful.
First of all oil paint takes longer to dry unless you mix some kind of drying agent with it. Second it is more forgiving once dry you can paint completely over a piece no matter how dark the colors. It also tends to last longer then acrylic. It stains clothing so you should be careful and in some cases can be toxic. I prefer to paint with oils because you can get effects you cannot really pull of with acrylic. You can make creamy transparency, rich layers, and other cool effects. It tends to be a bit on the expensive side though.
Acrylic is water based and dries quickly, even as you paint. Oil Dries more slowly, sometimes it takes several days for an oil painting to dry depending on the colors used, giving you the opportunity to paint wet on wet. There are many other techniques available to oil painters which acrylic painters cannot use. This is not to say that Acrylic painting is inferior. It just requires the painter to use different techniques. Oil paintings can also be made matte or glossy depending on the medium used, ie; linseed oil, linquin etc.
For me, the best advantage of acrylic is in the clean-up. No nasty smelling solvents poisening up my work space. Either way, don't try to save money by buying cheap brands. If you don't get that smooth, buttery texture, you'll find yourself pushing pigment around the canvass more that you will be laying down the color where you want it. In the early days, (1960s) acrylics felt like painting with melted crayons. Modern paints are much better.

You may like oil painting, but be prepared for a much more labor intensive set up and clean up.
The difference between oil paint and acrylyc?

well oil seems to spread around the page more than acrylyc.
