As an artist, I want to mix my acrylic color paints with clear fast drying polyurethane varnish for the affect that it gives.Are acrylic and water-based polyurethane paints compatible?
Polymer emulsion paint (acrylics) and polyurethane varnish are not compatible - their chemical compositions are quite different. If you mixed them together the result would be disastrous at best.
There are many acrylic mediums that will give you the glossy effect of varnish - just mix your paints with a gloss medium or gel. Using multiple coats of final varnish on the painting will enhance the desired gloss %26amp; depth.
