Has anyone tried an acrylic aquarium? I'm looking at getting a new 30 gallon. Do they scratch easily?

Modern acrylics are fairly sturdy. Whiel all plastics will sratch, if you use acrylic safe tools and you will not have many internal scratches.

External scratches can be bfufed out easily.

The keyt is adding gravel/sand with a cup instead of pouring, this will minimize sracthing. Also, pour water in initially into a flat bowl so it does not stire up the sedimens.

Micro scratches on the inside, once wet often become clear. Basic optiocs. However, they are a great place for alage so soon you will have faint green lines where sratches used to be. Again, proper set up will prevent these and good care will prevent alage.

Good Luck.Has anyone tried an acrylic aquarium? I'm looking at getting a new 30 gallon. Do they scratch easily?
Yes they scratch easily. But also you don't have to worry about the seams as with glass.Has anyone tried an acrylic aquarium? I'm looking at getting a new 30 gallon. Do they scratch easily?
there are different qualities of acrylic-If your looking for a large aquarium, these are usually made of a high quality. (20 Gal or bigger) There are also some new aquariums out called NANO Cubes. these are excellant acrylic aquariums. Yes they do scratch-but unlike Glass, they can be polished out. acrylic is also clearer than glass. Glass give your water a little of a tint to it. Glass however, is cheaper that the acrylic. Stay away form the smaller acrylic aquariums-these are cheap and will go ';dull'; after awhile
Yes, you have to be careful what you clean a acrylic aquarium with, because they do scratch easily.

However, there are cloths made especially for cleaning them. They are not expensive, and they last a long time.
If you get one you have to be careful how you clean it. any abrasive sponge will leave fine scratches and after a while it will look really bad.
yes, i have one and yes, they do scratch easily. i don't care for mine and i have gone back to a glass aquarium. glass is much easier to clean. the acrylic became so scratched that it was hard to see the fish.
personally i would stick to the glass aquarium as they don't scratch easy also i have been told that if you have an acrylic aquarium they some time produce toxins in the water that may kill some of your fish or all of them i am still checking this out
I have tried one. They scratch but not that easily.
